How to: hide your age in your profile
As a result of your feedback, we’re happy to announce that beginning today, your age will default to “hidden” while in the 35-day waiting period. Once your 35-day waiting period has passed you will have the option of hiding your age within your profile. To hide your age, simply log into your profile and click “Edit my Profile.” Then, select “Hide my age” from the age menu (appears beneath the “Gender” drop-down).
Though your age will still appear to you, it will not show to your contacts or to the public.
Q: With this fix, will I be able to edit my age?
A: Yes and no. This fix is specifically designed to impact users who are in the 35-day holding period (for more information on this, please see this post), giving users the privacy so many of you asked for. Once users are past the 35-day waiting period, they’ll have the option of hiding or showing their age and will be able to edit their birthday. If you are already past the 35-day period, you won’t notice a change as this feature was already made available to you.
Q: What if I just answered my security questions the other day—will this reset my waiting period or speed it up?
A: Neither. This will not impact your 35-day waiting period. You’ll still have to finish your account verification cycle before you’ll be able to edit your birthday. This fix just hides a user’s age while they wait for the 35 days to pass.
As always, please feel free to leave questions in the comment box below.

I’d like to say, thank you for listening to the community!
Now, just fix the quote marks in the Guestbooks and the profiles will be perfect.

I believe that will be included in the next release (out either the end of this month or the beginning of next).

Unlike most of the rest of the people commenting, I WANT much of my info pubic. I have read everything and tried everything to get my status (profile card) to appear to the public to no avail, It took 3 months of just clicking on ‘friends’ & ‘networking’ under what am I looking for, for it to finally appear today. And although I fdon’t really care what somebody thinks of my age, I have thought about personal identity theft and how it is maybe not so good to put the year of when you are born in public view of the entire world.
Although there are many things Yahoo could have done to enhance the feature of 360: my philosophy is if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. 360 had so many cool features and layouts that you could do to really make it unique to ‘YOU”. This new profile format is dull at best. Not to mention that half of the features it does have do not work.
August 18th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
When I try edit It still says cannot be saved at the time. I’m really getting annoyed What is this “patch” I simply do not want my age displayed. I get that only I will be able to see the change but It won’t even save pffffff
August 18th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
I changed my security questions back in May (way over 35 days ago), yet I still don’t have the option of changing my birthday in my profile.
Why is this?
August 18th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Who gets a 35-day holding period???? I’m so confused here. Please clarify!!! Who decides who goes on this so called waiting list??
August 18th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
The 35-day holding period is the amount of time between when you first edit your security questions, and, when you’re able to update your age/birthday again.

My profile says, “Your profile is hidden,” but when I post on Yahoo Finance my age still shows up in front of my gender!
I’ve done everything you’ve said numerous times and wasted hundreds of hours trying to figure out how to keep my age from showing up when I post and nothing you’ve stated corrects it.
Who do I send the bill to for all my hundreds of hours of wasted time and how do I keep my age from showing up when I post on Yahoo Finance?

re privacy: i do not want ANY info about me made public.
if you have not fixed your site so that no info is published and i don’t have to keep checking to see what you are doing and if something has been published without my awareness, i am going to cancel my account and go somewhere that does maintain my privacy. THIS IS NUTS!!!
August 20th, 2009 at 9:26 am
i don’t like the idea of all the personal info needed to “connect” with strangers, you don’t know if your in trouble until it’s too late.

who r u?
August 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
To quote Floyd…” Is there anybody out there?”
I don’t think so.
Laughable, really.
Well, I am off to be ’social’ on some other site….
August 18th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Oh yeah…Yahoo kinda forget to tell us former 360 users that they were giving up on the social networking thing.
August 26th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
hi hw are you?
August 18th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
If the new profile system was never meant to replace 360 and be a social network, why did Yahoo promote it that way? Why did Yahoo ask me and other users to promote the profile system and solicit input from Yahoo users about features in the new profile system? Why did Yahoo abandon the who social network thing and not bother to tell us in a timely manner? Why did Yahoo experiment with Mash as a social network, use the same technology for the profile system and give up on having a social network?
Yahoo is still segmented as every…a website with multiple social networks that are not tied together in any reasonable manner. You have Answers, Groups and a whole host of other product that are decent as stand alone services and still no unifying force. Is it really that hard to capitalize on Yahoo’s position as a lending web-based email service to build a decent social network? Hasn’t Facebook around long enough for you to have learned form their successes?
August 18th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Hi Melissa,
Yesterday Yprofile still showed my age, but today my age disappear without any of my touch. What happenned then?
August 18th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Thanks for the check box on age removal. When I signed up, I didn’t realize that the age thing would haunt me. Much appreciated.
September 17th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
It would be nice if that worked. There’s no way mine will disappear no matter how many times I try it.
August 18th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I’ve been checking all day to see if I could hide my age yet and finally I just realized after reading comments that you already took care of it for us. That is for those of us in the 35 day transition period. So from the bottom of my heart, Thank You!
August 19th, 2009 at 1:52 am
I see a box that I supposdly have the option of hiding my age but each time I get the same darn thing can’t save at this time if it worked should I have seen what ever changes I made saved? or is that too much to ask? Joy I hope you doubled checked. I’m frustrate that this is turning out to be such a silly headache I give up I will just keep my profile hidden. It was really a simple request after months of not being able to edit I will use yahoo sparingly now. I will stick with gmail.
August 19th, 2009 at 8:21 am
LoL !!!
August 19th, 2009 at 10:15 am
well id like to say i dont think that hiding your age should be an option, I like to know how old the person is im talking to, You have to many kids on here that like to messge older people and that can cause a big problem for some , Its bad enough that they lie there age
August 19th, 2009 at 10:17 am
I miss the old Ault user rooms , seems like ever since they took them away we have to deal with all the bots and the kids,
August 19th, 2009 at 10:25 am
My age has disappeared from my profile and I dont have an ‘age menu’ when I go to ‘edtit my profile’.
Is this another Yahoo fix thet soes not work?
Melissa how are yuo informing the majority of profile users who do not read profile news about these changes and tweaks?
August 19th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Justine, I’ve got the same issue. I’ve been trying to get it fixed for over a month now. Yesterdays release was supposed to fix it, but apparently they changed their mind about what the fix did. Didn’t bother telling me until after the release, or course…
August 24th, 2009 at 9:56 am
I too have no option to display my age. It just disappeared one day. Could you please let us know how to fix this?
October 26th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
the answer is – she’s not. The new home page was foisted on me, and low and behold, MY AGE IS SITTING THERE!!! I use this service for my business email, not to have chatty people try and contact me. this is so intrusive and deceptive.

[...] How to: hide your age in your profile, Yahoo Profiles News [...]
August 19th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Wow…so the ‘fix’ basically hides everyrthing on your profile from the group pages. If someone clicks on members in a group page, the name/age/gender/location are COMPLETELY gone for ALL members…even the ones that this was finally corrected for months ago. I guess that is one way to fix it…if everyone wants to ensure their profile information is not displayed within groups. Why do the fixes seem to not really fix much and break a lot of other things. We also are no longer able to use quotes (or apparently any punctuation) in the display name field. I wonder if we have to wait for another ‘release’ to fix all the fixes this release broke.
August 20th, 2009 at 6:24 am
Yahoo, I simply don’t want to have my information public.
does it mean one cannot have his or her privacy?
August 20th, 2009 at 10:07 am
I like how the person in the example hideing their age is 109 years old.

August 20th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I have read some comments – some users wanted to hide their age. I think one should have their own privacy. So the details should not be made public. I too would like to keep my profile private. So could you please help me?
August 20th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I DON’T TRUST A SITE THAT HAS AS MUCH HIDDEN STUFF AND MISTAKES. I SURE HOPE YOU ARE PROTECTING US KIDS BUT THEN IF WE ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO PUT OUR PROFILE ON ,IT IS AT OUR RISK HUH??
August 21st, 2009 at 3:44 am
Let me get this straight, I have a box to check the option to hide my age, each and every time I go to save it after putting the security code I get the same comment: Unable to save at this time. Please try again later. Return to Your Profile, Now does this mean I fall into the 35 day verification period? Or the patch is still not working on my profile?
@kanchon: wtf are you talking about!? ur comment makes no sense to this topic Many have genuine concerns and ur comment is just wasting time.
@those saying some are liars because they want to hide thier age. what a load of crap, My true friends know my age I don’t need aquaintences on my messenger to know its my personal choice. I have more infomation on my contact card then most people. A simple request to hide my age shouldn’t be a big deal or drag on for months. Now that I’m hiding my profile because of this problem I feel uncomfortable doing so. I’m on other social networks where my age shows I’ve accepted it. I was unaware yahoo did it and very displeased that I can’t use the option it supposdly has *that does not work* to hide my age.
@Yahoo admins, what ya gonna do about it???
August 21st, 2009 at 6:17 am
i hope they dont make too many mistakes! they need to protect the kids!!!!
August 21st, 2009 at 10:33 am
Is my age hidden now? It’s certainly been at least 35 days since I asked for it to be.How do I know for sure?
October 10th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
why r so many people complaining at a site that was free. They should realize anything free is a big chance one must take.
August 22nd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Dear Yahoo! It’s been noted by your employees on this blog that a user’s age is always visible to themselves even if the user has selected to hide it from others. My question is this … why?
It seems to me that this fact results in unnecessary confusion for Yahoo! users wondering if their age really is being hidden, thus requiring repeated explanations from Yahoo! employees.
Why not simply implement the age display feature so that a hidden age is hidden even to ourselves when viewing our own profile. It’s not as if I ever need to remind myself how old I am online, I get reminders enough in the real world.
August 23rd, 2009 at 12:43 pm
So here we are nearly a year after the launch of the ‘New Profiles’ and what have we got?
1) My age has disappeared from my profile and I have no way of displaying it even though I have no problem doing so.
2) We have a very unsatisfactory blogging platform that we cannot personalise and which many users still cannot edit.
3) We still have a bland profile page that we cannot personalise even though we have asked repeatedly for it to be improved.
4) Looking round Users profiles it seems that only about 10% at most of users use the facility.
5) Some profile Users can display their age and some can’t. Some Users ‘status message’ is visible to everyone but mine is only visible to my connections. What really amazed me about this latter point is that when I questioned it you as ‘Project Manager’ did not know that this was how it was Yahoo’s intention.
Melissa Yahoo has launched a product that was not remotely ready for use on such a large scale. The fact that when the closure of Y360 was announced two years ago we were promised a better and easier to use platform seems to have been totally overlooked.
May I humbly suggest that you listen to your customers and that instead of trying to add bells and whistles to this pile of rubbish that Yahoo actually concentrates on getting the bloody thing to work first?
September 1st, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I concur. Sadly however, Yahoo! has made it clear many times over that they have little to no interest in what their customers want unless it fits their grand plans for the profile system(s). And while Melissa is most likely listening to our complaints, pleas and suggestions, the staff at Yahoo! that’s responsible for developing the profiles clearly are NOT listening to us, nor are the higher-ups at Yahoo!. If they were, I’d like to think that we would be seeing more improvements by now.

August 24th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
I agree but they won’t give us our old 360..
August 24th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
My 35 day waiting period ended a few weeks ago and I still have no field available to edit my age in my profile. Also, while I can still edit my gender, now it doesn’t even show up on my profile to other users. It’s just one c**k up after another, isn’t it? Pointless to use this system now anyway, as it has never worked as it’s supposed to and you spend most of your time blocking spambots. I trust you’ve now discovered the meaning of “beta testing” and will remember this for the introduction of future services? No, I didn’t think so either.
August 25th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
I have a bone to pick with Yahoo!. Even though my age isn’t being shown on my profile, it’s being shown in my messages on the Fantasy Auto Racing message board, which I’m not comfortable with. Not to mention my age is wrong. I’m 20, not 30.
August 26th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
As I am an adminstrator,I need to know how to change a “moderate” subscriber to “free email”.
I have gone EVERYWHERE I can think of to get it changed but can’t get there.

add disqus, yellowbot, and social networking like facebook, myspace, and linkdin.
i’d also say make it so that updating yahoo! status and twitter are connected… updating one, updates the other on both ends
August 27th, 2009 at 2:57 am
i meant to add more services to the profile updates.. the list is a little limited now and some major social media sites aren’t featured. also, having some more review sites that people use besides yelp! would be cool.
i also thought having connectivity between what i post on twitter and yahoo! status would be cool.. they’re essentially the same thing, but each has a different audience and i often say the same thing on both… having them connected as a option would be helpful in making yahoo the one stop shop for everything…

What is the point of disabling the ability to edit or even see your own age for any period of time, let alone 35 days? There must be some kind of reasoning behind this idea, even if it makes no sense. So what is the reason for hiding the age field for 35 days?
August 27th, 2009 at 11:27 am
you can try hiding your age or show your age whatever you like.

I have no ‘hide my age’ option on my yahoo personals profile editing page. Are there different versions of yahoo personals out there?
August 29th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
Why are my own updates on my profile? And my own comments to other’s in my guestbook? That seems redundant at best. I don’t need to see my own updates for crying out loud, I know when and what I updated. And I certainly don’t need to see my comments to others in my guestbook, that’s just stupid. If I want to leave a comment in my own guestbook, I can do that all on my own. Gah. What are you guys thinking? Can you please make this thing functional and something that people want to use? I’m really trying here. I’ve been on Yahoo for so long and hate to start new somewhere but you guys are just running people off left and right with what seems and feels like a class project. And not even one that’s going to get a very good grade nonetheless!
P.s. I’ll say it again, I love that you get this great blog and we get ‘that’. Screams volumes about what Yahoo thinks of their own blogging tools.

PROFILE WISHLIST:
-More options for private vs public items. I would like my name, updates, everything to be public. I would like public vs private options for everything on my profile.
-Opposite of above…I would like my updates removed from my profile. I don’t need or want to see my own updates. They are for my contacts/friends and should be viewable on their pages as should theirs be on mine. Ditto with my own comments to my contacts/friends. I don’t want them in my guestbook, I don’t want to comment to myself. I want to see my friends comments to me.
-I personally don’t care that much for customizing my background or music added, etc. but I know others love this and really want it. I would however like a free space where I can insert html or whatever I want.
-I would like my contacts to be public.
-I would like my “About Me” information to be ‘expanded’ by default and to stick. I don’t like the collapsed version. That should be another option.
-I would like to be able to title my own blog vs the “My Blog” default title.
-We need a calendar archive for our blogs. It’s standard.
-We need a blog roll for our blogs. It’s standard.
-We need an rss button/feed for our blogs. It’s standard.
-We need better text formatting for our blogs. What we have in Yahoo mail is perfect.
-Better definition/css for our blogs. A big blank white page to just add a few pictures and text is very unprofessional looking. Entries/comments need to be better defined.
-Friend Only/Public/Private options for blog entries.
-We need a list of our invitations sent in our Contacts section.
-Since we’re all Yahoo users, online indicators for friends/contacts would be great.
-Where are our Yahoo Groups on our profiles? Shouldn’t they be incorporated? Everything else we use on Yahoo is.
-The option to allow html in our guestbooks. I am thinking that’s something coming soon but please make it an option. I don’t want huge pictures and goofy things in my guestbook.
-Additional photos on our profiles.
-The ability to designate Flickr accounts to use. I use a different Flickr account than the one that is associated with my Yahoo profile and would like to use that one. This is not a privacy issue for other Flickr users as all photos on Flickr viewable are public, if not they have the option to make them Friend only.
-Embedded Flickr photo [the photos themselves] updates not just text. Flickr is a Yahoo product, why not capitalize on that great and very well respected service/ap?
Thank you.

I am still very disappointed in this new profile/blog/update…whatever you are calling it…Universal Profile…its dull..period. Even Facebook is better looking than this place (and I hate Facebook).
I thought after two months of using another client (Multiply) that I would come back and see more improvements…instead…I am offered a way to hide my age and how to update stuff I read on the yahoo home page?? well..sorry, that’s not what I used to enjoy about yahoo.
I left a comment for my contacts on my profile page…the status update is limited in characters (tsk!tsk!). This is truly a sad place to be keeping in contact with friends.

Profile pages are a thing of the past. No one really needs one with all the other possible services other sites offer. Your profiles, email and front page all say the same things and frankly, they aren’t what I want from Yahoo. I check my email and come see these posts to see if anything is new but that’s about it for my Yahoo use. It’s pretty much a dead site for me now.
August 30th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Melissa it would be a great idea to sort Custome Care out so that we, your customers, can actually get a real answer to the questions we ask instead of a generic copy and paste reply which has nothing to do with what we have asked.

screw this profile crap!!! how about some privacy!!! no one can trust what goes on with big brother!!!
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:26 am
Well..I think its a waste of time and energy to complain about YAHOO…but here are my thoughts,ANYHOW…Yahoo will NEVER be tha same after 360…Profiles SUCKS…and I closed my Profiles page…and quite frankly my dear…I don`t give a 5$#@.. END of story..;)
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Some days ago the age information dissapeared from my profile (it was changed last time approx. half a year ago). Also the field to enter this info is gone now. So I guess, Y sent me into the 35 days holding period. Is there any reasonable explanation why this info is taken away after I showed the age in my profile since 9 years? Is there any intelligent being in your project management whe decides about these “features”? If people want to hide their age, they simply could be given the option to leave it blank. This worked in the old profiles since the mayflower landed at the shores of america and it worked in 360 since several years. Why does anybody come up with ideas like this?
September 2nd, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Hi Melissa,
I suggest that the caps or limits on “connection requests” be removed. There is both a daily and cumulative limit in place. These limits obstruct the building of a community.
On a daily basis, after a few invitations are sent, an error message appears indicating the limit has been reached. On the cumulative basis, a message appears indicating that too many connection requests are pending and no more will be processed. Unfortunately these pending connections request are allowed to languish for three months without being answered. That’s too long to clog up the system! Connection requests should expire after 30 days. A month is plenty of time to check one’s mail and make a decision to accept or decline an invitation.
So I suggest that the daily and cumulative limits on invitations or connection requests be removed so that the community can grow and thrive.
Sincerely,
marybeth

I guess this is a roundabout way of getting rid of adult groups. As owner/moderator of two such groups, I require all members to list a legal age in their profile due to the nature of the content. Now I have no way to verify an applicant’s age. Who’s bright idea was this? If people are so concerned that putting their age (which they can lie about anyway) on their profile is a violation of their privacy, maybe they shouldn’t even bother to be on the internet in the first place. I guess these people would demand getting a drink at the local bar without an age check too.
With this new policy, I find it strange that Yahoo still has a warning page regarding adult groups. This states that you can only proceed if you are of ‘legal age’. This page further states that if you are not of ‘legal age’ you must return to the group home page and not proceed any further. GET REAL! If a minor wants to see and apply to an ‘adult’ group, this warning will not deter him or her! Ever since Adam and Eve warnings such as these made by authority figures have been ignored!
I’ve been a responsible owner of these adult groups, being very strict about the legal age issue, rejecting any applicant who didn’t have a legal age listed on the profile. Now Yahoo cuts me off at the knees! It just makes me angry that the ‘political correct’ crowd demands that something must be changed when it isn’t broken in the first place. As the saying goes ‘the path to hell is paved with good intentions’. This new policy definitely proves that saying right!
September 7th, 2009 at 2:47 am
How do I remove my age from the profile? In fact, I don’t want a profile!!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:51 am
wow man
September 10th, 2009 at 5:28 am
Hello everyone – guys you are working yourselves out for nothing – Your age will never change wether its displayed or not!
September 10th, 2009 at 8:22 am
What is this 35-day holding period and why am I in it? The lack of age display is causing me a problem b/c I’m trying to join a group that requires the age to be displayed in the profile.

September 22nd, 2009 at 1:03 am
Diana I know what you mean. These comment pages are one of the banes of my sleeping hours. So far, I haven’t had a profile page long enough to complain, but I have to admit MSN has a really good photo site. By the way, what does lol mean.
September 13th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
I have ask for ‘help’ and got none about the former Yahoo 360 which is now Yahoo 120 and I was forced to move my comments to the Yahoo 120 and I have NOT been in the Yahoo 120 and won’t be there until I am told that I can’t officially trust Yahoo 120 and its nothing and not worth my time. I read lots of people who hated the changes and I have found other places to comment and they are better than Yahoo 120, no surprise.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:14 am

September 18th, 2009 at 5:33 am
I like people hiding their profile specially their age for privacy sake. I like to do the same.
September 18th, 2009 at 8:06 am
comments are closed(?) in the latest post so I’ll post mine here…..
You can’t move modules around anymore to customize the profile? The first thing I did when the profiles introduced updates was to turn them off (as I’m sure lots of other people did)
The thing about updates that Yahoo still doesn’t get is that very few people want to tell the whole world, their connections or even their best friend about everything they do on or off the web every 15 seconds. Even tweens who use twitter to do that get bored or realize that a bit of privacy is a good thing after a short time.
The only way updates will work is that I give explicit permission about who I will share it with when doing the update. This is impractical as I would have to have check boxes to individually select who I will share it with out of my contacts/connections, assuming I didn’t want the whole world to know.
… anyhow so now there is a big empty space in the middle and everything else is crammed over on the right side directly under the advertisement
end result of this latest change:
-all profiles look (even more) boring as they did before as every bodies is the same
-Yahoo gets more ad clicks
- I get less people noticing my about me or guestbook or blog
So much for more customization to keep the half a dozen former 360 users that are still here happy!
September 18th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Since the comments are closed on the newest entry here on your blog, I’ll add mine here to the previous entry.
Why did Yahoo take away the one ability we had to customize our profiles? Moving the modules around? Why? I don’t share updates any longer and so that leaves a huge white space on my profile that looks terrible. If we don’t share updates at least that module should be removed at the same time if we can’t customize. Seriously, what is the harm in moving and expanding the modules to our liking? Please put that function back. Yahoo is removing functionality not improving it! And we waiting an awfully long time for this update for only an appearance and small one at that, change. The change/add your photo function you speak of in your entry is the same as it was. It hasn’t changed. It’s been that way for a year at least. The search bar is as it was. Nothing has changed with this update except the tabs and some shading. That’s all they could come up with in all this time?
September 18th, 2009 at 11:34 am
I agree with the 2 previous posts.. This is by no means an improvement as to what we had before.. Yahoo seem to be going back wards with this site instead of forward.. Now we have lost the ability to move our modules around and I like so many others are left with a big blank space.. It’s sad to say the least.. out of my 18 contacts there is now only 2 that use this anymore and that is becoming rare.. I think the updates are completely useless the way they are now, why do I need to know who has commented on who’s page? All of our blogs go completely unnoticed because they are not included in the updates like they were on 360.. I hated Facebook at first but now I am on it with my contacts so in a way I guess I my complaining on a lost cause…
Oh and to add ,isn’t it ironic that we have to post our comments over here instead of on the new post?? Melissa hasn’t been commenting on any for weeks now.. Maybe she gave up and has went elsewhere.. I certainly wouldn’t blame her but this makes me wonder.. is anyone reading our complaints???
September 18th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
I’m even more confused now. You say I can hide my age by clicking the checkbox below Gender, but there is no checkbox there! I don’t understand what this security questions stuff is about, I haven’t changed mine since 2005 when I signed up, so I can’t be in this 35-day waiting period, and I’ve been unable to edit my age for at least 3 months.
Furthermore, neither my age or gender from my profile appear against my name when I’m in the chatrooms like they did previously. I don’t understand the reason for making all this so complicated or the logic that removing as many essential features as possible is somehow better for users.
September 18th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Argh, 20 minutes since that previous post and still can’t find the option to change/hide/show my age. This is crazy – there’s just no option for it anywhere!!! On the ‘edit my profile’ page I can change my name (why?) and gender (not likely to change without major surgery), but not my age (which changes once a year so is the only piece of information I DO need to change).
Please please please can someone at Yahoo sit down and actually try to use these new profiles for 5 minutes – then you’ll realise how terribly designed they are and hopefully that will encourage you to sort them out.
September 18th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Can’t move modules…geez yahoo are you in some kind of time warp or something? STUPIDEST move I EVER saw on ANY site. Who said I wanted my ‘updates’ (which by the way are the lamest part of this profile system) to be front and center. Throwss EVERYTHING on my page OFF. Get a clue Yahoo and stop messing with things that already work and get the stuff we WANT onto the profiles. Thouroughly(sp?) disgusted with you guys.
September 18th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Worst…profile…ever!
All the modules that matter are crammed into the right side of the screen.
The rest is blank (you can stuff those updates where the sun don’t shine).
Yahoo has finally taken the last step into the land of uselessness.
It is AMAZING how this company is completely unable to learn from the tons of feedback it gets from users! Simply utterly amazing!
September 18th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
YAHOO ARE AMATEURS!
This profile “update” is a downdate! And they do it again and again and again and again.
In all my years on the internet, I have never known a company so good at being useless.
September 19th, 2009 at 2:08 am
Okay … just ditto to all that’s said above. The latest change (one assumes Melissa has jumped ship and Yahoo aren’t interested in feedback – kinda obvious as they always ignore it) has simply placed the least interesting feature (updates) front and centre; AND removed our ability to customise positions of elements. How is a retro-grade step an update? Well, I guess the complete lack of profiles traffic must be telling someone at Yahoo how well this is going. It beggars belief that someone in Yahoo actually asked for this change to be made, and then someone else spent time making that change. Mind-boggling ineptitude … hey Yahoo, if you are so far removed from what’s going on in your costumers’ heads how can you expect to be successful?????
Idiots.
September 19th, 2009 at 2:10 am
okay … so comments on here aren’t posting any longer. No surprise I guess.
September 19th, 2009 at 9:52 am
I don’t want to share any updates.
Why do my connections need to know when I make a comment in another connection’s guestbook?
The only update that I would like i.e. that I have posted a blog is not available.
We have now lost the ability to move things round on our profile (or am I missing something?) and I am stuck with a big blank space in the middle while my ‘about you’ section is a small section on the right side.
These ‘improvements’ do not increase the ‘functionality’ of my profile they diminish it.
Congratulations Yahoo I did not think it would be possible to ruin the pile of rubbish that is ‘profiles’ but you have managed to do it.
September 19th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
My profile does not open there is a problem I do not know please help me and I look very sad rave trouble
please help me :”"(
September 20th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
You need to give us an option to get rid of the updates module…it’s a waste of space. Sort of like the profile…hmm…see how that worked out…
September 21st, 2009 at 8:40 am
If ‘Profiles’ is not meant to be a social networking site as we have been continually told since Yahoo killed off Y360 why on earth would anyone want to use it to keep in touch with ‘family and friends’?
I do not have connections.
I do not want connections.
I use Yahoo to play in the games rooms and I use my profile to let the people that I play against know who I am, what I do and that I do not want to talk them through their masturbation fantasy.
Why do I need a big block in the middle of my profile telling me what I have been doing on the internet? I already know that information.
In my case I would never use profiles as a social networking site as by its nature it follows me where ever I go on Yahoo.
Does Yahoo actually have a long term strategy for Profiles or are you just making it up as you go along? From what you have done so far in just under a year I would say the latter is the case.
Yahoo…………..listen to your customers.
Profiles is a mess and your latest ‘improvements only make it worse.
September 21st, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I agree… While some of the more recent improvements aren’t that bad, the new lay-out for info and details on the profiles are actually WORSE than before.
September 21st, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Its not a big deal for me… Age does’nt matter as long as you believe in yourself, U know who you are and true to yourself…only GOD knows who really…We are.
September 22nd, 2009 at 1:32 am
I just noticed the time that was put on my comment to Diane. I don’t know what time zone they are in, but here it was around 4:10 A.M. September 22,2009 (first day of autumn) when I left it. And no the complaints about the age confusion don’t seem mundane to me.It is now 4:30 by my living room clock, and 4:27 by my computer’s clock.
September 22nd, 2009 at 10:03 am
hid my age coz it said not to give dobout in a security module i did
September 22nd, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Melissa,
I did the question and started the 35-day period on August 14, 2009. It has been over 35 days and I still do not have the option to hide my age. It has been 35 days since the patch went into effect to hide ages, and yet I do not have any options.
What should I do??
September 22nd, 2009 at 6:12 pm
When I opened my facebook acct I used my married name Hardrick but I have encountered high school classmates and need to hyphenate my name to show who I was in high school so that people will recognize and remember me by name. How can I change the name in my profile?
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:03 am
I WANT to see your videos $ image.
September 23rd, 2009 at 5:57 am
Yeah … this 35-day thing is a joke too. I answered those questions months ago, and dont have any ‘hid age’ checkbox.
You guys REALLY have NO IDEA what you are doing do you?
It must be embarrassing to admit you work for Yahoo. A shambles.
September 26th, 2009 at 8:30 am
My profile is Hound dog. I am totally dissatisfied with this site. Tell me how to get out of out completely. I just do not want to be on a site that does not let one get out of it if they desire to do so. It is just not the right thing for Yahoo to do. My opinion.
September 26th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Has anyone else noticed that Melissa hasn’t been responding to comments is over a month now? Maybe she quit, can’t say that I would blame her one bit but it makes me wonder is anyone from yahoo reading our comments.. hmmm
September 27th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
If you believe it’s more than 35 days since setting your Q&As and would like to change your date of birth or age privacy, then you need to contact Yahoo! Customer Care, and ask them:
“Please can you check the social directory registration date for my account, , and if it’s more than 35 days, please add my account
to the bug 2917569 and have the correction script run on my account”
This should then trigger customer care to check and add, it worked for me, and it will take up to 5 working days from this to resolve. If you are not very specific about the above details, depending on who you get, they may not understand the request and simply re-iterate the logic or even tell you that it’s just not possible!
The best way to contact support is to go to http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/ and click “Contact Us”, then use the Yahoo! Profiles Help Form.
The above information was obtained from Melissa herself – it looks like the blog is not being maintained by her anymore, the latest post was not by Melissa, but by “Profiles Team” and uncharacteristically of Melissa, the comments are disabled. It’s a real shame that they will stop comments on this blog, it’s one of the most user oriented Yahoo! blogs I have come across.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
I have several groups for adults only and I require that member’s age show to verify that they belong there, yet I know that they may have a devil of a time trying to get this info updated. Is this just “tough luck” for them, since Yahoo! feels this is probably something they shouldn’t be doing, anyway?
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:18 am
How to delete a contact that I have two times ?
How I can get ride of my Gmail (seguin.gipi@Gmail.com) because I dont have my 508 contact adress book that I developp over years with Yahoo ?

I know it is aggravating when things don’t go right, like not being able to get your age removed off your profile when you want to but don’t sweat the small stuff,Life is too wonderful for that.save your aggravation for the big stuff

October 7th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Yahoo is the biggest joke on the internet these days. I see that Yahoo resellers are offering Google as the default search engine now.
What does that writing over there on that wall say?
If you devoted 1/10th of the money on tv ads to developing services you might get somewhere. As it is …. … ….
October 7th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Will the last person to leave Yahoo please turn out the lights!!!
It’s a ghost town over here now..to think I would be grateful to have Melissa back here replying to every 50th comment to at least give the illusion that someone at Yahoo is listening to our concerns, even if they don’t act on them to improve anything, now it’s just banging your head against a brick wall.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:03 am
I saw one of the ads for Yahoo on television and it made me hurl. It said somethign about ‘making it your own’. There is NO individuality on Yahoo after they took off 360. Now it’s just crap.
The only thing I do on Yahoo is check my mail. And mostof the time, it kicks me offline or takes so long to check that I am swearing at it most days until I get off the site.
Nice going yahoo.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Yahoo is a big steaming pile of garbage.
It is truly rare to see a major corporation self destruct so utterly and completely before your baffled eyes. Even the most blundering amateurs on the internet can see where Yahoo went wrong time and time again.
Apparently Yahoo is completely unable to see it themselves. Which, I guess, is why they turned their company into this steaming pile of garbage.
Calling them “amateurs” would be giving them too much credit. They are simply as totally inept as I believe it is possible to be as a company on the world wide web. By all logical and scientific standards, Yahoo should have hit complete bankruptcy a long long time ago. Their continuous survival defies reality. Like a dinosaur walking around Central Park.
When will someone put this miserable company out of it’s misery?
October 8th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Has the reception to the new profile system been that bad that you had to disable to the comments to your most recent update? Has Melissa Daniels been let go yet again?
October 9th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Melissa is now working on other projects, hence no updates, no replies etc.
Daniel above, could not be more right about this self destruct mode Yahoo! have gone into. They launch a whole ad campaign, on how it’s about you, but then censor blog comments (ycorpblog and ymessengerblog) and stop answering on this blog. They are doing nothing to address bugs in their systems, while still developing new functionality, compounding major flaws.
October 11th, 2009 at 11:59 am
deja vu … mash and yahoo! 360. bugs & issues and no one fixing anything or communicating or even keeping the lights on. still, i love reading all the complaints, it’s comical to watch an entity as large as yahoo fail so miserably at every venture they attempt.
p.s. i saw the tv commercial as well and about fell out of my chair laughing. are they serious? really?
October 11th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
how do I add my age and birth date to my public profile ?
October 11th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
This is totally off topic but I was just in my Yahoo mail options and who knew you had to pay for POP & Forwarding your mail? You have to upgrade to a paid account to be able to use that function which is a totally FREE option in Gmail as well as other stronger than Yahoo! email providers. I find that very interesting and worth noting. Plus I hate all that extra stuff in my email, what is that? Why can’t I just have email in my email? I’m so overloaded on overkill with all this Yahoo!
*screams*
October 11th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
The circus formerly known as yahoo continues… check your profile now, I get
“?’s Updates
Sorry, we are unable to retrieve updates at this time. Please try again later. ”
updates are down
pictures are down
names, nicknames etc are down
Hey yahoo since it’s now MY Internet, I want MY stuff back up right now!
edit:wow kinda creepy, they put it back up while I was typing this, brb gonna check my room for hidden cams!
October 12th, 2009 at 7:51 am
Creapy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 12th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
hello good morning can you delete my age,my icon and address except my name ..thanks
October 12th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
the only thing that finally worked for me was concurrently checking the do not show age box, and changing the display name sightly like a capital letter. then save.
October 13th, 2009 at 3:36 am
Well… I didn’t read all the comments but… I want my age shown but there is no box for age anymore on the edit profile page.
Another thing is that I run an adult group and the yahoo rules say that a yahoo profile has TO SHOW an age to make sure there are no minors in the group. Yahoo loves to delete adult groups who doesn’t obey this rule. My group is moderated but now… Lots of those members profiles now got messed up and they are either hidden or doesn’t show an age. Easy target for deletion but what can I do now?
October 13th, 2009 at 6:51 am
You might as well not bother asking for help.
Yahoo stopped paying attention to their users. My advice is to go make a group somewhere else and forget that Yahoo ever existed.
October 14th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Not to stray off-topic here, but it kinda strikes me as being odd yet funny at the same time that since the last up-date was posted Yahoo! hasn’t enabled the “comment” feature of the post. I don’t know if it’s simply because they don’t want it commented on yet until they add something, or if Carl Starrett is right and, as he posted before, the reception of the profiles to date has made them think twice about allowing comments to be made. The only other reason I could think of is that they know how the comments will turn out and just want to save themselves the headache of enduring countless bashes and negative criticism.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Boy you hit the nail on the head there JanusX.. I think Yahoo has deserted this site completely. even Melissa has stopped answering questions..
November 18th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
They couldn’t care less. And, if “Melissa” was a real Yahoo! employee.. she was very unprofessional.
October 15th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
If you are on Twitter, you can find Melissa Daniels here http://twitter.com/mndaniels
She is more active there than on Yahoo.

I have been denied membership to Yahoo Groups because in my Yahoo Profile my age, state and name where not included and I can not add it
Like most of the other comments made about this issue I also wonder WHO makes the call when your 35 day’s are over.
I don’t think Yahoo should be able to decide FOR ME. If I want to show my age I should have that option.

I entered my age (birthdate) two days ago and it is reflected in a group I belong to. I want to eliminate that information and I can’t seem to hide that information on the group page. I clicked hide my age and saved it in my Yahoo Profile but it did not post in the group membership section. Suggestions. Thanks.

Like Yahoo! 360 and like the failed MASH and so many other projects on Yahoo! … our profiles have been abandoned by Yahoo! … I would suspect this blog to be deleted soon. Move on to something better everyone. I am. It’s not going to take a lot to for something to be better!
