As usual we get the results and not what the real problem is……lack of funding ..a strangle grip by microsoft or Google who are willing to buy the broken yahoo ..the technicians of the once yahoo happy home have Abandoned ship and found new jobs by Tagged , multiply or some other functional site……we the Pawns in this power struggle..are also the people who make it possible…..Honesty …might have helped !!!!!

Well…guess you are happy now…one less thing for the people at Yahoo to concern themselves with, a family of friends that joined that you tore apart in the flip of a switch, and with it, you can savor your blog transfers, and all you feel you did to help and find some sunshine, for some lost a page of someone who is no longer with us here in this world, and that was all they had of them, or some are sick or dying and did not even have the opportunity to say goodbye or reconnect with friends, but, guess that means nothing up against profit margins and power…and then, insult to injury, provide us with “profiles” which is a half knock off of other sites out there, but at least they allow backgrounds, internal emails…does WordPress have emails, may have to look into that since that is the forum you are using to produce this Yahoo News…which by the way, isn’t news, it’s insulting those who were loyal to you for years…so “thankyouyahoo”

um mike? it’s a free service. boycott what exactly? it is common knowledge on the internet that the yahoo blog’s are the ghetto of blogs – at least at 360 with the porn and fake profiles and so forth. it was white trailer trash heaven.

i don’t think it’s a bad thing that they’re not catering to the lowest common denominator.

catch up to the 21st century. this is the way the internet is going, either get on board, or throw your comp in the computer, move to the woods and in only a matter of months, you’ll be talking to yourself, or tree’s or whatever…

be happy that the internet gives you a life.

Mike, I agree with you, I have had a bad taste in my mouth for yahoo 360, ever since they took the photos away from the page, I have been with them for years, and got comfortable with things, after sometime, they get someone behind the desk, what to change, ? duh, and so… and now they shut 360 out- by the way, it doesn’t matter that the century does move on, everyone is entitled to their own free speech and opinions, its your constitutional right to speak your mind, if thats what you want. If I don’t like someone says or dont agree, why not just move on to the next comment or opinion made. This is why they even put this here to get feedback, know what we think, NOT ..that it will change anythingI but it feels good to let em know just the same., I was so connected to 360, I refused to use any other cite similar, chose 360, and this is what you get….

All I really want to know is, Why does Vietnam get to keep their 360 and we’re all stuck looking for new places to relocate our blogs?

To be honest, I am hesitant to continue a blog on the new profile because your higher ups may just change their minds and shut down any social networking on yahoo period.

360plus is a different site (though it does share the same name) run by the Vietnam team. Unfortunately, as with all products, there are often different versions for different countries, and, as a result, different outcomes for these products based on region, teams, and bandwith.

“From September 2006 through September 2007, the US-based web traffic visiting 360° dropped by more than half. The service had a more global appeal than some of its counterparts, but its global visits also saw a significant drop during the same time frame.[2]”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_360°

In other words, advertising revenue fell to insufficiently low levels. If more people kept using it then 360 would not have been shut down. It’s all about the Benjamins, people.

Facebook and Myspace have tens of millions of users. Yahoo 360 didn’t even make the Top 25, and that meant fewer than 108,000 visitors a month.

http://blog.compete.com/2009/02/09/facebook-myspace-twitter-social-network/

Would any of YOU keep a service like that running if you relied on advertising to pay the bills?

Didn’t think so.

If people want something to keep on going, people have to use it. Not enough people used Yahoo 360.

it is a good point, the reality is, 360 had a good user base but compared to others it was miniature. Though, i think the internet is maturing where people will start realizing that social services will have niches and need to play to tose niches, no one site will ever be the king. in japan it is mii in brazil that o-something, the united states has facebook, no global leader exists

MK, this is a very good point actually. Especially in the US where there are a number of sites which have their own following, multiply, facebook, myspace, tag, linkdin, and so forth.

They all seem to cater to a different segment of the population, and cultures there within. Facebook is popular with the just graduated university students and their networking desires, linkedIn caters to various industry professionals, myspace is geared more toward the musicians, tv and radio contingent and so on…

I’m curious to see where yahoo is taking this new profile, as it seemed previously that the general user was the urban unemployed housewife, and so forth.

don’t get me wrong, i rather enjoyed that particular platform, and have met some interesting folks through it, but i think that this change, will indeed have an affect on those folks who really didn’t have any real association with any other social network.

I don’t mind the change at all. after all, it’s the internet, it is based upon perpetual change. Anyone who isn’t able to handle change, especially considering the platform, and the fact that it is free, and they should be grateful from the onset, really… you’re not going to be losing anyone who really deserves the gift of the change.

keep up the good work!

To say I am disappointed in losing my Yahoo! 360-Degree Profile page is a gross understatement! Gone are the nice background and organizational tools, replaced by clumsy graphics and hard-to-find features. No more counters to tell if anyone is looking; with the lackluster visuals, who would be wanting to look anyway? I have stripped down my “new” profile page, opting to focus on MySpace content instead. Maybe Yahoo! will improve the new arrangement to make it once again appealing; but until then, there are better options elsewhere. Best regards, Dana

I have downloaded my blogs to my PC with no problems. Its all in HTML, which is fine by me…I will eventually move it to another home and if there are any problems my PC dude will fix the text.

I dont see any of the comments to my blog postings.

Is/was there a way to recover them? Did I skip a step in the transfer process?

Again, thank you for handling the angry mob in their time of grief. You are a real trooper and super awesome in really making a huge effort in keeping some sort of communication open. I wish I could say the same for your corporate bosses!

Your comments should be included in the download– for some users, they show as “a yahoo user.”

When you upload to a new service, they should appear if you don’t see them in the download. If not, let me know (and, send me the downloadfile), and I’ll file a bug.

After reading countless posts on 360 and the new profiles I have yet to see anyone that can say they are happy about the changes.. I will be keeping my profile page but doubt if I will be using it anytime soon.. I am going back to Myspace and Multiply and will check in on profiles once in a while to see if there are any changes or improvements such as being able to personalize out b/g and be able to upload pictures from my computer instead of a web site. Till then adious..

well, I think it would have been nice if yahoo profiles would have surprised us with some sort of theme tool with the fall of 360, but okay.
Looking forward,
I think updates in profiles needs the most help. For yahoo’s services, you must make it where updates take you to the page with the full comment. I cite yahoo sports and buzz as an example of that. A buzz update, or yahoo sports update if the comment is longer than the space provided doesn’t link to where the comment is but the general page.
Second, integrate the different blog places better on profiles. People are not willing to go to mybloglog and set it up there and then link it to profiles.
Lastly, the blog tools are fine, but you really need to make the blog space unique, visually. I recognize you dont want adult themes, and letting people choose there own background images on a theme allows that. BUT, the work around is to have a universal profile theme. If users can not be allowed to show an adult profile to others, no one said they cant be allowed to show an adult profile to themselves. And, in that sense a personal theme would work wonders. Allow people to pick a theme that they will see on all profiles. This will not be liked by some who wanted to show others their individuality, but some will like it as “putting a stamp ” on all of yahoo profiles.
So, even if someone wants to show a collage of breasts with pink letters and blue links, for a universal profile theme, they can , for no one will see it but themselves, AND, they will see their theme on every profile page.
That has to be the middle ground, people like individuality. I know yahoo wants to eradicate or reject adult content on profiles, but with themes as I have described, people can set up their own themes and have it follow them around any profile they go to plus their own..

Comment by MK
MyAvatars 0.2

AND, you can go farther. It occurred to me, if you set it up where people can only see there own theme on all profiles and profiles pages, regardless of user. You can make one user viewing the theme of another user on that other users page, an agreement or handshake.
so say tis system is set up.
I have the general theme as now. I set up a personal theme of my own. I go to my updates, and then go to a connectiosn blog, and then another connections updates, then go to my guestbook. On all these places I see the theme I created. And, then I go to another connections page, and I want to see the theme they have created.
We can both choose to view each others theme. This means,if anyone does not like another users theme, they would have first had to agree to it being whatever it is to see it, and then if they are that disgusted they can simply let the handshake go and be only able to see their own theme on their connections page.

Melissa please,

Could you tell us why it is no longer possible to place pictures in comments? A few weeks ago we could do it, using html code starting with img src, but now it doesn’t work anymore.

Also, when will it be possible to have backgrounds, choose colors etc… All blogs – sorry, profiles – look the same and it definitely lacks… evertything that made us love 360 so much.

I have to say that the end of our blogs was a real shock, some of us were online when it occurred. Even though we knew it was imminent.

Thanks for your answers, and sorry for my English (we haven’t got our own “Profile News”)

Anne,
The ability to add HTML in comments was removed due to abuse by spammers and bots. We’re working on ways to safely re-implement this feature so that it doesn’t open our users up to spam, harassing messages, and more.

As for when backgrounds and colors will be implemented, I’m afraid I’m not able to share timing at this time. I will, however, keep you all updated here.

Thanks.

Dear Melissa,

A. I simply do not understand IF, HOW and starting WHEN I can refer readers of my web posts to my old posts. Please clarify this to me. Is there now, or will there later be, a URL to which I can refer readers to my old (and may be also new) posts? Please clarify…

B. My last and only “blog” of several years was
http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-P81pQcU1dLBbHgtjQjxG_Q–?cq=1

I’m 84 yrs old, not good PC lingo comprehension. IMO I present uniquely interesting scientific perspectives on life and the universe. PhD Biochem 1956 Univ of Pgh, Pgh PA USA. I refuse to pay for posting-presenting my comments-essays. In fact IMO I deserve payment for the postings.

C. I want to continue and expand the above blog in its old format. I ceased posting in it months ago because editing was technically irritating to me, and because each additional posting involved edit of the first page, too. Instead, I’ve been posting in two forums and so far have, in 2008-2009, circa 190 of these scientific comments/short titles on research reports of life-sciences subjects.

http://www.the-scientist.com/community/posts/list/60/122.page#1012
(DovTS1019153)
http://www.physforum.com/index.php?showtopic=14988&st=345

D. I requested several times technical help from Yahoo 360, to enable me continue posting in my “blog”. Their reply: “cannot offer any information regarding these issues….”

E. I seek to continue the “blog” with a Volume II, “DH Life-Universe Comments From 22nd Century”, with circa 100 of the 190 brief 2008-2009 scientific titles, and add 2 – 3 new titles/week. Is this possible?

Would greatly appreciate your advice-recommendation,

Yours

Dov Henis

I just tried posting a blog…two blogs there informing my friends of where to find me (because I have no intention to continue using Yahoo after the closure of 360) but I can’t even do that. More annoying bugs! My posts just don’t show and who knows what else if I rummage through the site long enough..

If Profiles remains as long as Yahoo 360 did, just shoot me! Send Feedback doens’t even work. Is that intentional too?!

Vietnam has had 360plus for some time now– it wasn’t a site that was produced to cut down on the impact of the 360 closure– it was in effect before this happened, and, is targeted towards Vietnam’s product needs. As I’ve said before, different countries offer different products and services that are unique to their demographic. This is one example of this.

When can we expect a new update on our profiles with new features and fixes for the features that are not right? And what might some of these new features be? What about basic settings? Why do we have to wait thirty days to be able to edit our ages? That makes no sense. Why not 29 days or 32 days? Why is 30 the magic number? And what about using different Flickr accounts? As I mentioned before, I use a different Flickr account than what is associated with my Yahoo profile and wish to have those updates [i would really prefer the images themselves like we had in 360 once upon a time] on my profile. And why are my guestbook comments in my update section when I specifically opted to not have those visible? Is anyone even working on any of this or is it more of what we experienced in the last year or so on 360 when no bugs or issues were addressed much less fixed and we were left to wander around aimlessly on our own. That is the shame of Yahoo … a terrible legacy to have left a product… bad taste in a lot of user’s mouth. So what can we expect here and when can we expect it??? Or should we even expect anything?

the main reason yahoo went down is because of not simply doing something simple, and I do mean simple to take care of the bots in chat. Tired of hearing the same bs about they are here to stay. Several ways to eliminate them, have it to where we have to enter a captcha every 2 or 3 minutes or so. Or give a report as bot option where if at least 7 or so people in a room do that the id gets booted, if a real person gets booted in that case he or she probably deserved it anyway for annoying the crap out of everyone. In either case the bot gets kicked out and a real person has to re log them in every single time they get kicked which would defeat the purpose in them even having a bot to start with, because they’d have to sit at the computer constantly and might as well just spam without a bot, which they don’t want to do which is why they had a bot to start with so they can log them in and leave. This would eliminate more than 90 percent of the spam in these rooms but does yahoo care, no, they already have all of the answers to everything as we can see.

Tommy,
Implementing captcha every 2-3 minutes would not go over well with most/majority of our users as this is already a feature that is exploited by spammers, and, would likely be worse than the experience you’re already reporting.

As for the group report, this is also something that is currently exploited elsewhere and would likely be exploited there. There are systems that are currently being explored to work around these problems but in the interim, it’s not an option.

The images STILL will not resize in blogs. I’ve tried dragging the full size to the size I want. I’ve tried changing the sizes in the upload pop up box. I’ve tried changing the html myself. They continually go to full size regardless of what you do. What is wrong with Yahoo? Seriously? To release a product with all of these issues and bugs and one that’s not even finished? I have been online blogging and a part of the internet community for fifteen years. I have had LiveJournals, Myspace blogs, blogger blogs, my Yahoo! 360 blog, I have had so many effin blogs I can’t even remember. I have been on message boards out the wazoo. I have joined websites, portals and have taught myself simple web design. I have used sophisticated software and I have used online applications. And in all of this time and in all of this usage, I have NEVER EVER encountered something this unprofessional, amateurish in design and execution, and this lack of concern for customers and users. It’s appalling. Yahoo and everyone associated with this venture and it’s ripple effects should be ashamed. Raise the bar a little higher would ya? Um to acceptable would be a great improvement. I’m still submitting feedback forms galore and I’m still posting to these blogs of yours… it’s the least I can do to make myself feel better somehow. Call it a pet peeve… bad service and bad products.

I am thoroughly disgusted! I HAVE HAD MY YAHOO ACCT FOR OVER 14YRS. I had all my friends, family and just passers by say Hello and share a thought or two. I went to get my stuff, and my computer suddenly crashed. SO 14 yrs of people important to me =GONE.
The New Profiles are AWFUL. I wont even care if i make any connections. I WISH YOU WOULD HAVE CHANGED YOUR MIND!
i DONT WANT TO USE FACEBOOK MYSPACE ETC. I ENJOYED 360 AND IT WAS UNIQUE
Yahoo is really not here for us after all! I know sooo many people wanted this site to stay open. I think the reason why you have so few comments – people are to PISSED to speak!

Your so called “Customer Surveys are a WASTE OF TIME” I used to participate with no problem, why bother- You dont take into consideration what people want feel, think or believe should happen here on Yahoo.
I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS SUGGESTIONS ALL ONLY AFTER I HAD 100 OR SO OF MY FRIENDS FEEDBACK- AND MOST OF IT BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE ON YAHOO 360, PARTICIPATING IN YAHOO GROUPS, AND YAHOO ANSWERS
NM I GIVE UP AND JUST DONT CARE

i remembered telling my gf it was all about money – it was just a guess but i guess i was right – they are all clueless about real people who had real friends – and Yes NO-ONE unless they are a clueless paraplegic without a job and no idea how to find another site would even Want to use “profiles”

so many companies throw away money every year to charities and yet they didn’t think that 360 deserved any thought beyond the almighty buck

and now we are told facebook made a lot more money and had a lot more users… so what? if all you cared about was money throw at least one ad in the 360 and rebuild it so it works right – you will get your money and maybe not a lot but enough to keep it going – never heard about keeping the customers happy???

get a clue

we need our own personalized url’s – i.e. http://profiles.yahoo.com/gypsy or something like that. we had it in 360, myspace offers it, all applications online offer it… what we have now looks ridiculously amateur in the address bar.

it’s hard to believe all the basic, what should be a given, ideas and feedback items i keep suggesting and reporting. this stuff is all basic foundation stuff. things that should have been in place long before going public with this. these are all very simplistic options and settings. yahoo profiles as it stands now, resembles a high school project by some kids and one that would not have gotten a great mark either. check it out though, most of your users are over 35 years of age. what were they thinking?

WHY do my comments to my contacts show on my guestbook? That’s just stupid. I don’t want that. I don’t need to see what I say to others! I don’t need to sign my own guestbook… geez. That just makes no sense. Also why are my comment updates showing in my update section when I specifically opted to not share those with anyone? I have to manually delete them.

After reading some of the for and against comments here I have something to say. If Yahoo 360 was in fact such a liability in the long run then why did Yahoo not improve upon it and add new and better features like other sites have to attract more people but to keep the ones they already had? Why shut it down and open a new site that is worse and no one likes? It doesn’t make sense to close a site at least some loved and open another everyone hates and will never use.

Yahoo closed 360 on us, and openly admitted that the new profile system is not really for social networking. What social networking site does Yahoo recommend now that the closure of 360 has ruined hundreds if not thousands of relationships that took literally YEARS to build up??

I recall building a yahoo 360 profile several years ago and not being able to search for friends, or once finding friends and later wanting to delete them or add back, the feature wasn’t capable. I felt like there just wasn’t any technically savvy people managing yahoo 360 and fixing the problems. And all the inactive accounts, thousands of them. Couldn’t they (yahoo) have hired someone to delete profiles of those that weren’t active for 12 months or longer? And couldn’t they hire someone to clean up the adult website leads? Heinz Ketchup doesn’t change their name to improve their product. They build upon their brand loyalty and make an even better ketchup. Yes, there are lots of brands of ketchup out their in the world, but they lay the foundations then go from there. Yahoo just gave up on their 360 product. Too bad. Soooo sad.

i do use this profile page but think it is not much good after the way 360 worked – it had glitches but none we couldn’t manage. i loved it anyway so although big probs with multiply will go there i suppose occassionally and stick with my space as it looks like facebook is being sold off as well. the government would like it if all ordinary people would give way to the wealthy only then – in uk at least – they can tax providers to the hilt who will then bill the users for emails and social sites etc to recoup profits.

the closing of yahoo 360 really made me upset & disapointed.
i came to meet some very good folk via this service of yahoo.
the present yahoo profile is not an eqvivalent to yahoo 360.
it lacks more then 90 % of its utility, & user freindly to the yahoo 360.
my suggestion to yahoo is that they must reconsider their decision of closing yahoo 360 or at least provide with the same services & freedom on their this new yahoo profile page.
Thanks

The changeover from Yahoo 360 to this new profiles page has really made me angry . I missed the changeover from 360 due to illness , I now find that I dont have any profile at all . When I try to access my profile I get this message showing ” Sorry, this profile cannot be retrieved at the moment. Please try again.” I get this message even if I sign in to the profile page to create a new profile . So now I have lost everything !!!

I think maybe I can see everyone’s points, hear what they are saying, and everyone is entitled to say what they feel and think. Its what they want us to do, why else have a comment/discussion place here for our comments,
maybe there wasn’t enough, But, I was a user, and so were all of my friends, ones I brought here , just know those who were faithful to 360, that believed in 360 from the start, are really disappointed here . It isn’t just and only now when closing it down, I remember back further when they made critical changes to 360, I really disliked them closing the photos, and us having to find another source for putting our photos, and now the whole thing other than a profile gone, As one other here put it, , “we now have to move our blogs elsewhere” – just disqusted in them, and in anything else ” YAHOO” , will they too close them out eventually ? Should we go on and find another now, before it comes to that ?

Until TODAY, i still not able to move my blog OUT from Yahoo, each time i check my mail, there is still no download link, i started to get impatient already for this matter, as from day one i report until today, my problem still not yet resolve and i STILL cannot move my blog to wordpress…This is started to get really too much!!

I do hope Yahoo will keep your word and promises to solve my problem out rather keep making me waiting for months after months!! Because after Yahoo closed 360′, i think this is the last thing that Yahoo can actually do for all the Yahoo 360 users OR should do for us is to deal with our data properly, but STILL end up performing it poorly with broken technical support or system that is NOT working…sometime i do wondering, is there still hope in your company of Yahoo??

I do hope that Yahoo can be serious on those feedback and complain from it’s users also know how to perform those works properly rather than keep open door for people to complain or point the finger, if not your company will gain NOTHING but continue to fall down to to the pit and surely more people will lost their job…So, FIX MY DAMN PROBLEM!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! I want my file so i can move to Wordpress NOW!!

Do NOT reply and ask me the same question over and over again but NOTHING is done out there, i want my file out of Yahoo, just provide me the download link so i will NOT bother you people again!! NOT mentioned this is a promise, then DO IT!!

Because i wait and wait and wait, even after one deadline over and another also over and i still wait and talk nicely but still seem like no use and seem nothing come out…Sometime some of these problem can be solve in matter of hours, but you people has make me wait for months, i really do NOT understand what is the problem behind all these but the attitude of people working with this company.

If you company really cares about user experience and customer services, then prove it, so just talk nicely but perform nothing in the end STILL nothing please…Therefore, GIVE ME MY FILE, then i will stop making noise or else i will keep jumping here, not mentioned i am NOT a troublemaker, it is Yahoo are not able to solve my problem now.

OR else i will send letter to your company CEO to complain about this if i need to if this problem continue not been resolve.

Melissa, I read in your comments above that we were supposedly notified by email at least three times. I have never received an email and I check my Yahoo email account multiple times daily (its the only email I use). Just tonight I tried to log into Yahoo 360 to see what it was like now because the last thing I heard (I think on the Yahoo 360 blog) was it was going to go through major changes but all information including blog entries would be transferred. It made me sick to see the few (maybe 20 to 30) entries that I had were gone completely. I cannot understand why I never received even one email. I searched my Yahoo email account in every folder and found nothing. All the other information like Interests, Music, Schools, etc. transferred into my new Profile but no blog entries. I am honestly heartbroken. I guess I will never get them back again. Some were in depth about special times when my kids were young. I don’t know what else to say.
