It’s now easier to share more with your connections!

The next time you check out your profile on Yahoo!, you might notice that we’ve added a new “Share More” module within your profile. This module (which is just like the “Share More” page) allows you to enter your username into the wizard and automatically scans the net for matching identities on other popular sites like YouTube, Twitter, and more. (1)

If you use a different ID for your Picassa, YouTube, Last.fm or Yelp accounts, you can add them one-by-one using the “Username” box. (2)

Currently you can share from 19 different sites (in addition to all of the Yahoo! properties that are found on the Updates page, and we’ll be adding more in the near future.

By linking your third party-sites with your profile you’re able to easily share your activity with your connections on Yahoo!. Once you’ve added a few third-party sites, you’ll be able to manage your preferences from the Updates page. As always, your options are: Anyone, My Connections, and No One.

If you don’t want to see this module on your profile page just click on the grey “x” in the corner and it will disappear. (3) Once you click the “x” you can access the same content by visiting the “Share More” page, found here: http://profiles.yahoo.com/share_more/

the best bet is to use mybloglog to connect to your myspace and then place mybloglog updates on your profile updates.

The real problem with sharing more is that it does not relate well with comments. you ave to allow comments to be seen first and foremost with a click

Melissa, how about you make it easier to HIDE our information, to CHOOSE what we put out there. Most of us don’t want to be social, if we did we would be on facebook. Yahoo should go back to doing messenger/profiles and email well rather than trying to copy fads like Facebook and myspace. All you are doing is hurting your own company by chasing after a spot in the market that is already full to bursting.

Truth speaking, the new profiles site is getting sooo messy with all those updates and things I do not want to be on my profile, nor does the DELETE X work at all and it acumulates. No go to change my profile pic or add others, simply doesn t react….and WHEN are we going to be able to have a wonderful background like on 360????????????? Please, Yahoo, work a bit harder on making this new site be decent gathering place…you knew for long before offering a new site. Thank you

We want backgrounds! We want this more like 360…I never thought Yahoo would belittle themselves by making a site that is almost exactly like another social network site, which I refuse to join for the same reason, at least some other sites, you can come close to the personalization that 360 allowed…I guess I do not understand when the purpose was to gain customers, why backwards progress seems to be the way to go…the only reason 360 did not have many users was because it was not advertised the way other social networking sites did…you had Yahoo commercials during Superbowls or other times, but never advertised this “great social network” you created…hence, more customers…anyone from the outside who sees the new profile that was created will just view it as another social network site and if they already have one, why would they join here…I am at a loss and in reading the other comments above…by copying other sites, you took away the uniqueness that was Yahoo…sorry you felt the need to close 360…

My opinion isn’t worth much if there isn’t any collective action taken: Yahoo was the only ones to decide what to do, so they did it. It’s not us users choice for change, but we got it anyway; from very well made Yahoo 360 to Yahoo.. 360 was a complete circle, but now is poorly made!

Yeah, but Yahoo did have a blogging feature, it just didn’t use it. You guys didn’t have to wait until you added a blogging feature to Profiles before using one of your own products. Again, it just shows how bad you guys are at doing things.

Hey Melissa,

This is off-topic, but the only way I know how to reach you.
It’s been brought up on the Y!A suggestion board that the following FAQ is erroneous:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/profilecard/06.html

It states that, in addition to location and gender, ages are modifiable via the Basics page; however, this is not the case.

The modules don’t “stick”. You move them and/or delete the ones you can and you log back in and their right back where the were originally and the one you deleted is back. Uncool. Why is this product barely workable/usable and presented to us this way? Not much works on it. It’s unfinished. I can’t tell you the dozens of feedback forms I’ve sent for issues/bugs and general things that don’t work. Yahoo mail has better text formatting than our blogs do for crying out loud! Why didn’t Yahoo just implement the same script/coding for our blogs as they’re using in email? This is the worse product online I’ve ever seen much less used.

I just tried to blog an image and tried to do this three times. I am using the align left option and resizing it 100px width and height in the option settings. It appears fine in the html code and it looks fine in the blog text area and then I publish it, done. And after three attempts, the image will not resize. It stays at the full image size. This is a bug since your great new update/upgrade because I have other blogs with resized images already. It worked just fine up until now. Reminiscent of a broken 360 product that no one ever fixed. I deleted my blog post and gave up trying. Forget it.

Seriously, I am TRYING to use this profile in all the good faith I can muster! But it’s a half finished product that barely works. It’s so frustrating! How can Yahoo expect any kind of good feedback or word of mouth with this kind of sub standard work? No one wants to be a part of something that isn’t finished, especially a trial or test from a company as big as Yahoo. It’s terrible, just terrible. And poor you Melissa to have to take the brunt of all this negativity. Shame on Yahoo for that and for this ridiculously weak product. No company will sponsor this kind of thing. Would you put your money on something like this? So frustrated!!!

P.s. It’s laughable that our 360 profiles are still up despite all the threats from Yahoo for doomsday today. How can anyone take Yahoo serious? Who’s running that show?

P.s.s. We all see that you duplicate these entries on your Yahoo Profile blog but funny how all pointers are directed here and not there. Are you just as ashamed, embarrassed and frustrated by it as we are? You want your public blog pointed to a ‘real’ blog software that works? I don’t blame you.

No one I know likes the new yahoo profiles, and neither do I. I haven’t even bothered to do anything with it. Since yahoo 360 decided to close, a lot of people have moved away from yahoo period completely, and onto other sites. Though 360 had a lot of issues, we had a kind of love/hate relationship with it, and preferred to be there to anywhere else. Although I understand the reason to close yahoo 360, I think it was a big mistake, and a lot of people just won’t bother with the new profiles, it doesn’t look good, and just don’t have that good “feeling” that 360 had.

And, I also find it funny that our profiles are still up on 360 a day after it was supposed to be closed, and I can still access my blogs there as well.

Are you complaining about the fact that Yahoo has given a few users a break by giving them a little extra time to save their material? If anything, I should think Yahoo would see a little mild praise over that. It’s the first nice thing they’ve done for a while, and shouldn’t we encourage them in that?

honestly, i think 360 is still up because yahoo didn’t expect the mass exodus to other sites as they are probably seeing, as well as all the complaints about the new profiles that they are getting. But i will give them dapz for leaving 360 up a few more days whether they are trying to be nice, or because they can’t figure out how to shut it down.

Angel & Jim,
We told users they had until the 13th to remove content– on the 14th we would be shutting down the site. Unfortunately, shutting down that many servers is a gradual process and isn’t just done with “the flip of a switch.” We waited until all time zones had reached the 14th, and then began the steps to shutting down the site (internationally).

If you visit the site now, you should see that it is no longer accessible.

I agree with Angel Mass and Rich in PA. This site is not really anything. It is not a social networking site or a blogging site or an IM site or an email service. It allows no control over visibility of who sees what. If Yahoo is serious about keeping this service alive, items such as listed below should be attended to before all of the customers leave for better venues.
-Control of visibilty as to who is allowed to see what
-Classification or grouping of connections to allow access to different postings.
-Options for more profile pics

new Profiles are certainly not as welcoming as 360. Blogs are difficult to locate on the new page. The important thing is communication… individual comments to me and mine to my friend…. not to all friends should be what is available. And blogs… to be able to easily locate them and to know when a friend has posted a new blog item. I also offer these:

– Animated Avatar option in the Profile pics
- Color and theme Customization
- Background customization
- Option to add more modules
- Quick comments
- Feeds module
- Photos module
- Testimonials
- Music play on the blast

Thanks for listening and considering.

I then deleted that alias and you know what? Hours later they showed up attached to another alias too!!!

Worst of all, if I go to my Master Profile, it says I have NO connections at all. So, to top it all off, now I can’t even delete this person. Somehow they just decided to connect to me twice without asking and without getting my approval. I wrote to Customer Service and even filed an abuse form since this person did it to me TWICE in one day and to TWO of my chat aliases — and all I got back was some standard Yahoo form letter saying “If you want to get rid of a connection, delete them from your list or as a friend from your messenger.” Gee, that would be great advice if this person were a friend on my messenger list or was showing up on my end!!!!!!

So given your answer above, I’d REALLY like to hear a good explanation about how someone is now connected to me…it’s a done deal according to my messenger…and yet they NEVER asked, I NEVER approved them, and now I CAN’T delete them since they don’t even show up in my connections list.

By the way, just to clarify why I am so angry in my previous post — the person who is now somehow connected to me is someone I’ve NEVER met and NEVER chatted with and NEVER traded emails with. Let me make this perfectly clear — I have NO idea who this person is. And thanks to the brilliance of the new profile pages, I also can’t click on a link to send them an IM to ask “Who are you?”

So tell me, Melissa, how can a person decide they will connect to me without my consent or authorization? And if it says on my messenger that they are a new connection, then WHY are they NOT showing up on my master profile account page, where I should be able to delete them???

And what’s even crazier, as I said before, this person did it TWICE in one day. I went so far as to deleted one chat alias… I figured I would just dispose of it and the mystery connection would disappear… yet hours later they showed up in my messenger AGAIN, this time as a connection to another alias of mine. And they did it AGAIN without ever sending a request or without my approval. So I’m not sure if I’m the target of an online hacker or stalker or what, but obviously this person has found an end-round with regards to your Connections and Authorization system since he’s somehow approving himself.

And needless to say, this situation is making me one VERY UNHAPPY Yahoo customer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Melissa,
Thanks for giving help where you can. Do you have any idea where the company is going to resolve the issue I described about not being able to accept an invitation I have waiting? I emailed support twice and the problem hasn’t been resolved. Thanks for your help.

To delete a connection, go to: http://profiles.yahoo.com/contacts/ and find the contact in the left navigation bar. Click on their name and then click “delete.”

Melissa, first off, thank you! I know this isn’t exactly easy.

I just want to re-itterate everyone’s thoughts on what is missing from my yahoo profile. I used to have an identity and personality on 360, sadly, its gone. It defies all logic that yahoo would willingly choose to force people into using other social sites when yahoo was the first.

Add to the list of enahncements..

mobile posting..

I had to sign up with another site just to make my profile have content in it. So instead of montenization of my content on yahoo, now someone else is getting it. I want to post pictures and updates on the go. I do not want to twitter EITHER cause I’d be hacked.

How do you provide a public link to a single blog entry? Or blog main page? I see no way to get to a list of blog entries unless I compose a new blog entry. I make the blog entry available to “everyone” and I want people who are not my connections to see that blog entry, but I see no way of giving them a URL to see that blog entry. If I use the URL link that I get while I’m signed into my own profile, that URL link doesn’t work from other people’s machines/accounts.

Ted,
When you are logged into your profile and look to the blog module, you’ll see a link that says “View All”– clicking on this will take you straight to all of your blog entries.

Ex: http://profiles.yahoo.com/blog/DPHQSAMXY32QFSVKNEC5A5ZVXY

We’re looking at allowing users to create “vanity URLs” that would allow you to just share something like: http://profiles.yahoo.com/blog/yprofileblog or http://profiles.yahoo.com/yprofileblog/blog/ but this is still in the works. In the meantime, the “view all” link should work.

What is the point of connecting to someone? When someone asks you to connect, you cannot see their other connections until after you connect to them, and if you dont like what you see then, then it’s too late to disconnect. Also, when someone asks to connect to you, you do not see their real username, so if you don’t ALREADY know who it is, then you don’t have a clue who this joker is asking you to connect to them.

Some days ago the age info dissapeared from my profile, though it was there since 9 years und I even cannot enter it again. What should this be good for? Today the online indicator in the list of connections is gone. There seems to be a constant decrease in functionality. Is there a purpose behind this? di you want to chase away all users. I want back the 360 profiles!

Since you disabled comments on the latest post. I will post my comment here. I do not like the new set up at all. We were able to move boxes before and now the option was taken away. The colors are ugly. Least provide a option for us to change the colors. Adding the extra sites as explained up there is not working either. Still no online indicator in the profiles…I’d really like to see this feature back. Maybe this time with the online indicator, you can make it to where it shows when somebody is idle and how long..example, 1hr 40mins, mobile and online too.

Im 70% blind and Yahoo could care less about anybody on THEIR WEBSITE. They OWN You and Your Profile. I have been brought to tears over all this and trying to talk to ANYONE. God Bless and Semper Fidelis Gary
