Update for broadband users

UPDATE: If you’re a broadband user and are still having trouble adding or deleting aliases please contact Customer Care directly (Yahoo! Customer Care can be reached using this link: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/profiles/general.html) to report your issue as the http://manage.members.yahoo.com link is no longer active.

(NOTE, as of April 1, 2009, the http://manage.members.yahoo.com pages are no longer accessible/available, making this section incorrect. Currently, if you have a broadband account, to add/delete an alias please follow this link: https://edit.yahoo.com/identity/manage. If you’re still having trouble adding or deleting an alias, please contact Customer Care).

For those of you who are on broadband accounts (AT&T, Rogers, Verizon, British Telecom, Telecom New Zealand) and are having trouble adding or deleting aliases we’re happy to share an update with you.

We’ve identified the issue that prevents you from accessing the “Add/Delete” screen and are working to resolve this issue, but in the meantime, broadband users can manage their aliases by going here: http://manage.members.yahoo.com/YOURFULLEMAILADDRESSHERE – please replace “YOURFULLEMAILADDRESSHERE” with your full email address.– AS OF APRIL 1, 2009, to add or delete an alias please follow this link:  https://edit.yahoo.com/identity/manage

So, for example, if your email address was yahoo@att.net you would enter http://manage.members.yahoo.com/yahoo@att.net (please note, this is only an example and not a functional email address).

From here, click on the “View my Profiles” link up at the top.

http://www.yprofileblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/viewmyprofile.jpg

To add a new alias, click “Create New Public Profile.” (1)

To delete an alias, click on the “delete” link next to the alias you wish to remove. (2)

Once you’re through editing, click “Finished Editing” up at the top. (3)

http://www.yprofileblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/123.jpg

That’s it.

Until the issue with broadband accounts has been resolved, to add or delete an alias you’ll still need to use the http://manage.members.yahoo.com/YOURFULLEMAILADDRESSHERE link. I’ll keep you posted on any future updates regarding this issue.

Whether you have a broadband account or a regular Yahoo! account, you can still access your profile the same way, by going to: http://profiles.yahoo.com

I created a Yahoo! account several years ago. A few years after that, I got broadband with a company which uses Yahoo! services. So in addition to having my Yahoo! account, I now have an account with the company which supplies me with broadband. I don’t wish to have two profiles. Is there any way to merge my regular Yahoo! profile with the profile on Yahoo! that I can access through my broadband provider?

That link goes nowhere for me. (http://members.manage.yahoo.com/YOURFULLEMAILADDRESSHERE, with the last part replaced with my address). I have NO access to my Yahoo Groups now, all I ever get a a prompt to create a damn profile, and if I use the one I created, all I get is “OOPS! Nothing here!”.

Very frustrating, and when I ask for help all I get is that it is a “known issue”.

AARRGGHH!

You know I hate saying this yet again because until I can find a service that still cares I know I need those names to keep in touch with people for now but still I have to again remind you that without indavidual profiles those “Alias names’ are all but worthless.

Honeslty, your trying to force us to all either put out dangeorus amounts of info on ourselves or not put up profiles anyways, why give us alternative names? It seems more like a part of the functionality your company was afraid to take down because it might add to the backlash, though with so much I wonder why they care.

Melissa those other profiles are the only reason to have an Alias name. I don’t want to say this because i’m afraid that in the Infinite stubbornness of the people running this ill conceived change I will lose every person I have whos not using their main profile. Probably the main reason you got rid of it. But again all you have to do is allow for the option, even the OPTION to have a profile that is truly separate from the one linked to the email account and you would fix the vast majority of the problems you have with the new profile system. I still don’t see why you haven’t as any reason I have been given seems to just repeat ‘it will allow you to have everything on one profile’ rather than giving a real benefit on our end.

Again, Melissa I ask you to tell them how important those other profiles and that making a separate account for each one is unacceptable. If even that is not possible though maybe we could at least have an answer to why even the lack of that option is beneficial to us.

Why did you do a full release on a BETA product that is obviously not ready? By doing so you have damaged Yahoo’s already rather tattered reputation. What you should have done is run both sytems side by side side until you licked the bugs. What I would have done is on every new system profile is have the link to give people the option to also see the old profile then if the new system was any good the old profiles would have died a natural death instead you have so angered people you have created resistance & a dislike of the new product.

Cannot accept or remove the connection suggestions made my Yahoo on our profile. This is just the latest bug. Hope you can fix it.

Throughout the years you have managed to put out new and exciting services and with them the rate of bugs and pissing off people that use Yahoo has risen exponentially. Have your actually taken note of it? Still sending out automated customer service replies, so guess no, lol.

Honestly if you work for Yahoo find yourself another job. Yahoo sucks most of all online services, really it does. Even small ITstart-up companies have better service and customer relations then you have.

I’m not sure if this post by Yahoo relates to the problem I am currently experiencing, but when I try to join a group, I get a prompt to create a new profile (which I already have,) and when I try to make that new profile (which I don’t really want to do,cuz I want to use a particular name that I have associated with my current profile, not a new one,) I get a page that tries to sound cute by saying “Ooops!! Nothing to see here!” Seems I am stuck in a loop in the netherworld of Yahoo’s incomprehensible tangle of profiles, names, permissions, passwords, etc, and Yahoo is trying to be cute. Every few years or so I get caught in this sort of mess, which makes portions of my Yahoo experience DYSFUNCTIONAL. Yahoo’s help pages frustrate me more, as the links offered don’t ever seem to approach anywhere near the issue I am having. Then this post, with a complicated link that GOES NOWHERE! For a communications company, ATT does not seem to be communicating very well.

How come those services remain with old profile format and the rest do not? That doesn’t make sense. Give us an opt out please. I prefer the old format. I do not like the new profiles. This is very easy way to get hacked and not to mentioned stalked. If i get hacked again because of this change without warning because of these profiles. I will place blame on you, yahoo. Seriously, do something right for once, give us back the old profiles and give the option to upgrade.

girlnotgrey,
These pages remain in the old profiles format as a temporary solution for broadband users. These are only a short-term fix for users needing to resolve their issues with adding and deleting aliases.

To prevent yourself from being hacked, be sure to limit the amount of information you reveal, and you can set your profile to private.

No one is getting “screwed”– everyone is and will be using the profiles service as it stands, there are just a few changes to be made to the broadband accounts. Until those changes are made, broadband users should add and delete aliases through the http://manage.members.yahoo.com page.

But we are Melissa. Thats what this whole new profile system does to us. Its not a good idea and while people will ’settle’ nobody is happy with it.

The reason none of Yahoo’s other social network things worked too well is that nobody wanted them. The answer is to give up or fix 360, not force it on all of us. I’m sorry but we are all getting it in the end.

Exactly:-(

We used to get about 6-8 new members per month on our women’s group, now since the new profiles fiasco, we have only had one.

I have spent hundreds or possibly thousands of hours developing our community group over the last three and a half years, and now Yahoo are going to kill it because no women will want to join a group which makes their personal info either totally visible or totally invisible. We need the adaptability of the old profiles, which got round this problem. Now no-one wants to know.

Yahoo is killing my community and I am angry.

Claire,
The past version of profiles defaulted everyone’s profile to public. This version defaults everyone to private, essentially protecting users MORE than the last version did. If people were aware in the past that their information was public, why the frustration or dissonance with setting their new profile back to public?

(I’m honestly asking).

Melissa,
I know I have seen this problem before, but I can’t seem to locate it just yet. I had a new member join my group, because of personal reasons he created an entirely new Profile ID after joining the group and unsubscribed under the old one. As far as I know it is a separate ID and not just an alias off the old ID. Now however when he goes to try and join the group again it keeps sending him in a vicious circle telling him he must create a Yahoo profile (which he had already done, I can view it so it is out there) He is not very computer savvy so I am getting this in bits and pieces. This is the last email I got from him:
“After I clicked on join the group I am redirected to:

YOU MUST FIRST CREATE A YAHOO! PROFILE

and then it requests me to ENTER A NEW PROFILE

and if I put anything other than my profile name it rejects it saying it is already taken, or yahoo doesn’t support the name or whatever.

When my right profile name goes in and I click continue I go to my profile page but that’s it. I’m stuck there.”

If you could give me some help to pass on to him, hopefully we can get him straightened out.

Thanks!
Shy

Shyanne,
It sounds like he’s either using a broadband account or a rocketmail/ymail account to create his new membership. He needs to go through the steps above (go to the http://manage.members.yahoo.com/HISID page) and make sure the alias is added there (check out the steps above on how to do this).

Then he can go to http://profiles.yahoo.com and link that ID to his main ID by clicking on the http://profiles.yahoo.com/peoplesearch page and selecting the ID’s he wishes to link.

Hope this helps.

Almost every day I have to go and delete bot spam on my profile guestbook. Bots advertizing links to live sexcams etc.
Thank you Yahoo! I’m so happy that the family members I connect to are exposed to that.

Is this what Yahoo is considering a great improvement to the Yahoo profile? More opportunity for spammers and bots to spread their crap everywhere, like in the chatrooms and in the new “improved” yahoo mail?

Do you have ONE SINGLE PROFESSIONAL working in your company at all????

Setting your guestbook to be seen only by your “connections” kind of eliminates some of the purpose in having a guestbook. Would it be possible to add a report abuse or spam feature to the guestbook or a way to block offensive posts?

I am having the exact same problem that Shayanne wrote about on 11/21. Actually I’ve had this problem for 6 weeks now and I have spent HOURS trying to fix it!!! I think you should inform ATT of this problem because they have no idea so they keep you on the phone forever as if they’re going to fix the problem but they have no idea what they’re doing. (BTW aren’t you guys the same company?!!) Somebody from Yahoo help sent me directions to bypass the issue which involved creating a Yahoo email (is that the same thing as an alias?) Anyway, then I got sent a message that I needed to verify my email so when I clicked on the link, I got a message that said “Oops our servers must be taking a break”! Well are they taking a break or are they broken because I’ve been trying for 5 days! So I tried to email through the Help Form (3 times) and I don’t think my emails are going through because after I click the send button, I don’t get a confirmation of message sent, I just get another blank form like my message just evaporated or something. Argghhh!!!!

Got caught up in the dead-end “create profile loop” last night when I tried to join a group I was invited. Moderator researched and had me do the following: One, Join by sending an email to MyGroupNameHere-subscribe@yahoogroups.com (I didn’t need to write anything-just sent a blank email). Two, Moderator approved my request to join which put me in the group but I could not access files, etc. Three, I went to http://manage.members.yahoo.com/myfullemailaddresshere. Four, from here I was able to create a profile (don’t use a profile name that you tried before since it is likely sitting there in limbo and do follow the process through to be able to click on “Finished Editing” when it shows you a list of your public profiles). Five, after I was able to create a public profile, I went back to the group site and tried to access the files. At this point the group system asked me to select a profile to use and it showed the one I had just created and the one that had me in limbo. I picked the new one! Crazy but it worked for me. Hope this helps others.

I Don’t to be hidden..I have my profile set to viewable by anyone/everyone! I can’t uncheck the feature and get it to “save”…for some reason it keeps rechecking it’s self? I am talking about the yahoo basic/member directory profile..that is where the feature is. The example of the profile I am talking about is in your second image on this page. I don’t have it set to private or hidden..not the old profile or the new Beta profile.

Does the 360 profile have to have the settings the same as the beta profile and the old basic/member directory profile? I do have the Yahoo 360 set to viewable to only me because I no longer use the 360 page and we don’t have the option to delete it.

Thank you SO much for answering!!!!

Going on TWO WEEKS of emailing “Customer care”, asking in the Yahoo! “ask other users”…still NO REAL answers!!??!!

Well I bloody well give up!! Why couldn’t you have posted an alert to this problem on your homepage Yahoo???

My partner and I have spent hours trying to sort out how to get into his group. Now I find this page and see there is a known problem. Two hours on the phone with Yahooxtra techies last night – these guys had no more idea of how to fix the problem than we do!!

I’ve now tried every method suggested in the posts above to no avail. The incorrect link stuffed me up too – that should be removed!
Get real yahoo – I’m fed up!

I see why you guys are waaaaaaaaay behind other web browsers. You guys make joining a group as difficult as joining the French Legion. I’ve given up also, when you come up with a better system, let use all know. A word of advice, Keep it Simple…….. (smile)

360 cannot be accessed from any link on any page- just an error message. Tech will neither respond nor fix. This theft of intellectual property is criminal, denial of access without due process is criminal- are you guys at Yahoo gone Bankster on us? FIX is too little too late, or how a biggy like Yahoo went belly up overnight. Where is my 360, w/ 400 entries over three years? Don’t think this pro author will not seek litigation or some form of resolution, damages. Have I been individually censored, illegally, with all rights violated? Without the adult courtesy of any notice, or is the site broken, and they/you won’t admit to the screw-up? Lack of answers today promises business under criticism & attack tomorrow. YOU SUCK AT WHAT you are trying to do-fix or fail. FIX OR FAIL. FIX or FAIL.
Where is my damned 360?
I will be highly public and visible with my complaint tomorrow.

Lack of courtesy of reply, or mere acknowledgement of receipt, is INCOMPETENCE being demonstrated hourly, YAHOO. What makes you think you have the luxury of delay? I will be advising my group to totally dump Yahoo in all forms on Monday at our weekly meeting. Your “SERVICES”, Yahoo, are no longer required. You are fired, dumped, trashed, thrown out with the other obsolescences of government & religion & establishment dumbasses who don’t know what they are doing, cannot admit to their errors or limitations, and are drifting rapidly INTO DISHONESTY in performance, function, and responsibility to their clients, not to mention stockholders. Oh, yes, we will be dumping that too. Frank Lavoie, Old Tombstone Studio (Independent High Definition Widescreen Films)

I keep getting suggestions for contacts that come in on emails sent to me and 20 other people. I don’t want to connect with everybodys contacts. I don’t know any of them. I want to delete the whole profile thing from my mail page. Can that be done?

I am finding this whole fiasco of an unannounced forced roll-out of a defective beta ’social system’ and yahoo’s arrogant and condescending lack of response amazing. Amazing in how it just gets worse. I note now the moderators of this blog have stopped even pretending to care 90% of the posters are angry and hate this new thing, and just babble along about some new ‘improvement’ they made ‘just for us’. Melissa has even stopped responding to the few posts that seem approving of this garbage of a beta replacement. Although I cancelled my Yahoo accounts weeks ago over this, it’s like a car wreck on the side of the road, I can’t stop looking at it lol.

Notification emails are going to my secondary email address. The only place the secondary address is now specified is in my Yahoo! Answers settings. I have removed the secondary address from my BT email profile, but I do not know how to remove it from Answers. Will you please ensure that the secondary address is removed totally so that no Yahoo! product uses it in future.

I have already been referred to both BT and the Yahoo! email team on this matter, but nothing was achieved as a result.

How are you getting on with the other faults I reported in my email dated 26/11/08, to which I still have no reply?

Please try again.” … If u can help or look into why my main account doesnt appear that would help … ty

You all are going to love this who want to be able to search profiles again.
Don’t wait on Yahoo! to give you your search options back. Just do a google domain search. Go to google.com and type this into the search box.
“town gender site:profiles.yahoo.com”
example
“greensboro female site:profiles.yahoo.com”
check it out it works

I finally had success using the steps described, to create a NEW profile. I am unable EDIT a profile. When I click on the EDIT link, I get a page that reads: “We’ve launched a new profile on Yahoo!. The user you are searching for either does not exist, or has chosen to keep their profile private.”

I know that I am signed in, because I had just CREATED that profile. So, is there any way to EDIT profiles?

I find that my e-mail address seems to always be publicly displayed along with my alias – so what is the point of having an alias?
If this is not normal – what am I doing wrong that causes this to happen?
I tried fixing this situation on my own but must not know how to do this since it is still happening. What should I do to remedy this situation?

I cannot create an alias…the problem is still not fixed!!!! I follow steps for brodband users and it takes me to the’ oops..nothing here’ page. If there is a fix to this somewhere LET US KNOW OR NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not want our email seen to the whole world in IM or in chat rooms. Hours wasted trying to do this on my own!!!

Why has the page linked at
http://manage.members.yahoo.com/YOURFULLEMAILADDRESSHERE
been taken down? It was the only way to change the “Old Profiles” which are still displaying on such Yahoo products as Groups. You either need to make Beta Profiles work with Groups, or restore the page linked above.

Why does my yahoo messenger ID show up on my bussiness e-mail address? This was the whole purpose of using a different e-mail address to sign up for messenger. I do not want the two linked together!!! Plus, I have tried to delete this messenger Account and it still shows up on my bussiness e-mail.

Why is nothing being done to enable your partner’s (btinternet) customers to edit their alias’s?
the link qooted does not work, nor does typing the adress manually.this has now been going on for months, and i am thinking about changing my ISP
